NEW YORK (AP) - Ricky Williams, the former NFL star who played in Canada last season after being suspended for a year for substance abuse, has applied for reinstatement.
Williams' agent, Leigh Steinberg, said the running back, who will turn 30 in May, had sent a letter asking that he be allowed to return to the Miami Dolphins.
The NFL confirmed that Williams had sought reinstatement, for which he will be eligible after April 27, when he will have been suspended for a year. Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene said the team had no comment...

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) - Joey Harrington signed with the Atlanta Falcons on Monday to back up Michael Vick at quarterback.

He was a disappointment in Detroit, in part because he was chosen so high in the draft. From 2002-05, he started 55 games with the Lions, throwing for 10,000 yards with 60 touchdowns...

The standoff between Chicago's Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs and the Bears is officially moving to the next stage.
"I am now prepared to sit out the year if the Bears don't trade me or release me," Briggs told FOXSports.com via cell phone Monday. "I've played my last snap for them. I'll never play another down for Chicago again."
Briggs was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent earlier this month but the Bears slapped him with the Franchise tag, which pretty much keeps him as their property for next season at a one-year...

CLEVELAND (AP) - The Browns finally tackled Jamal Lewis.
Unable to reach a deal to remain in Baltimore, the free agent running back signed a one-year deal on Wednesday with Cleveland, the team he blistered for an NFL single-game record 295 yards in 2003.
Lewis was released last week in a salary-cap move by the Ravens, who elected not to pay their career rushing leader a $5 million roster bonus. He'll now join the Browns, Baltimore's AFC North rival, who were last in the league in rushing in 2006.
"We are pleased to add Jamal Lewis to...

Daniel Graham caught 120 passes in five NFL seasons with the Patriots but is expected to help the Broncos even more with his excellent blocking ability.
As fantastic as it sounded, father and son knew there would be pressures if tight end Daniel Graham completed the circle of high school to nearby college to the NFL in his hometown. Ultimately, though, father and son couldn't have thought of a better ending for Graham's foray into free agency.
"Not many people get to play their high school, college and pro careers in the same place,"...
