Brady: Davis to decide on NBA next week
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU center Glen "Big Baby" Davis is leaning toward turning pro and likely will announce his decision by next Wednesday.
Coach John Brady said Davis has been meeting with agents and plans to meet with him next Tuesday to discuss entering the NBA Draft.
"He's investigating it, and if it doesn't turn out like he thinks, then he'll come back," Brady said. "Every young player wants to go to the NBA, that's just the way it is, but the reality has got to meet what he wants. And we're going to take the next week to figure that out."
Brady said he's helping Davis by gathering information from NBA scouts about where they expect the 6-foot-9, 290-pound Davis to be picked.
Davis, a junior, was an AP second team All-America selection during the 2005-06 season, when LSU went to the Final Four. This season, he averaged 17.7 points and 10.4 rebounds.
With career totals of 1,587 points, 916 rebounds and 110 blocks, he is the only LSU player other than Shaquille O'Neal to surpass 1,500 points, 900 rebounds and 100 blocks.
"He'll either announce he's coming back to LSU wholeheartedly or hire an agent and chase his dream," Brady said. "I don't think he's going to test the water at all. He's either in or out."
Although he would like to have Davis for one more year, Brady said he has not put any pressure on the Baton Rouge native to return for his senior season.
Several other LSU standouts have left Brady's LSU squads early to turn pro recently, including Brandon Bass, now with the New Orleans Hornets, and Tyrus Thomas of the Chicago Bulls.
